Mercedes Benz C Class 2019 Front

Unbeknownst to many at the time, the Mercedes-Benz 190 series was to be the precursor to the up and coming C-Class sedan. Its production run lasted from 1982 to early 1993. Later on in the same year, the Stuttgart-based carmaker unveiled the 190’s successor, and it was officially called the C-Class.

Over 25 years after its first release, the new fourth generation C-Class is one of the most popular and prolific models from the stables of Mercedes-Benz. Well admired as it may be, this champion of a D-segment luxury sedan is not without rivals. They include the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Jaguar XE, and Lexus IS.

Exterior

The exterior of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class oozes style and sophistication. The striking headlights feature a projector setup and suave LED DRLs. The protruding front grille has dual slats and gets a prominent three-pointed star logo. The bumper houses dual air inlets and a gaping air dam in the middle.

The flared fenders along with the distinct character lines along the bodywork, gives the C-Class an imposing yet elegant stance. The taut rear of this sedan gets classy LED taillights, a short yet stylish boot, and a meaty bumper with integrated diffuser and twin exhaust pipes.

Because of the extensive use of lightweight aluminum and high-strength steel in its new platform, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class now weighs up to 90 kg less than before. The new model measures in at 4.686 meters in length, 1.810 meters in width, 1.442 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.840 meters. Meanwhile, total cargo volume is now at 481 liters.

Mercedes Benz C Class 2019 Interior

Interior

The sophistication and elegance of the exterior carries on to the interior of the new 2019 C-Class as well. Keeping with its suave theme, the cabin is mostly covered with high quality materials such as leather, soft-touch plastics, and metal/wood accents. The design of all the buttons and key touchpoints are well done, the cabin ergonomics are spot-on, and the build quality is great as well.

The leather seats offer great support and adjustments, and the front seats offer plenty of space. However, space for taller passengers at the back isn’t the best due to the sloping roof and the presence of the large transmission tunnel. However, the seats themselves are comfortable and there’s also rear air-con vents to improve ventilation. The 2019 Mercedes C-Class can be had with a laundry list of features including adaptive cruise control, multi-zone automatic climate control, power-operated front seats with memory function, heated and ventilated seats, electric sunroof, automatic LED headlights and wipers, COMAND infotainment system with navigation, a premium sound system etc.

Safety tech onboard includes 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, parking sensors with reversing camera, attention assist, hill assist, and tire pressure monitoring system among many others.

Engine and performance

Engine options on the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are plenty. There’s the turbocharged 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, where the latter can be had in various states of tune. There is also a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder in the C43 AMG, plus a potent 4.0-liter BiTurbo V8 in the C63S AMG. The former gets AWD, while the regular sedans and the C63S get a RWD layout. Also, all C-Class sedan models get a 7-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The top speed for the C63S AMG is limited to 250 km/h, while 0-100 km/h takes just 4.0 seconds. Fuel economy figures range between 5.8-8.4L/100 kilometers.
