Land Rover has entered 2022 in full steam - after launching the all-new flagship Range Rover the British brand has now launched the third generation of a car loved by nearly every footballer: the Range Rover Sport.

We all know that all Range Rovers can go off-road with ease and the fact that this is underpinned by the same MLA architecture as the flagship Range Rover, we’re going to start by focusing on the ‘sporty’ bit of the Range Rover Sport. For starters, the Sport is more lowered and hunkered to the ground than the Range Rover, has upto 35% more torsional stiffness and a 0.29 drag coefficient.

Talking about drag coefficient, eagle-eyed readers would’ve noticed that the Sport features very smooth styling with the flush door handles, new front and rear fascia and the slimmest daytime running lights ever fitted to a Land Rover.

Moving inside you will find a cabin loaded with tech. A 13.1-inch, curved touchscreen welcomes you and it runs the latest Pivi Pro system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity along with Amazon Alexa voice control. The driver will have an interactive 13.7 display in front of him and passengers will be able to enjoy top quality music thanks to Meridian's Signature Sound System with 29 speakers.

Now let’s talk about the variants because there are six of them: two plug-in hybrids, three mild-hybrids, and a new 4.4-litre twin turbo V8.

Starting with the P510e and P440e plug-in hybrids, both the variants produce an impressive 503bhp and 434bhp respectively and have a 0-100kp time of under 6 seconds. The mild hybrids are the least powerful variants of the Range Rover Sport range and out of the three, the P400 runs on petrol, and the D300 and D350 feature diesel powertrains along with the usual mild hybrid tech. The P400 has 395bhp on offer and the D300 and D350 produce 296bhp and 345bhp respectively.

Now let’s get to the angry and meaty twin-turbo V8 - the monstrous flagship variant of the Range Rover lineup. The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 thumps out a whopping 523bhp and can reach 100kph from standstill in just 4.8 seconds. Those are sports car numbers!

Nick Collins, Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of vehicle programmes said: “Land Rover’s pioneering flexible MLA architecture and the latest chassis systems come together to deliver the highest levels of dynamism we’ve ever seen on Range Rover Sport.”

“Integrated Chassis Control governs the comprehensive suite of innovations, co-ordinating everything from the latest switchable-volume air suspension system to our Dynamic Response Pro electronic active roll control. The result is the most engaging and thrilling Range Rover Sport ever,” he concluded.
