age of cars

The senates of almost every country today are inclined towards infesting mobility which is cleaner, greener and safer. Parading the abyss taken place till date, with the Coronavirus being the ultimate shot making us repent for the inadvertent exploitation of resources, a study christened ‘code red warning’ for humanity released by the IPCC report elucidates the average age of cars and contrasts that with countries.

The results are very interesting and provide a direction towards the administration of older cars and implementation of modern sustainable techniques for new cars that will be embraced in the future. It also paves the way towards a more desirable scrappage policy that will generate payoffs and reduce the impact of pollution on the society.

According to the survey, Argentina has the inclination for the oldest cars in the world as they are found in massive numbers. However, what might appear queer is that Saudi Arabia has cars with average age of just 3.8 years. This makes us believe their high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) level is a reality slating itself at the 19th position. The second incumbent, lies China with the average age of cars standing at 5.1 years. This is closely followed by the country of world records, UAE at 5.2 years.

Despite cars being a pricey prized possession as a certificate allowing the purchase of cars is exorbitantly expensive, the average age of a car in Singapore is 5.46 years which is close to Poland at 5.5 years.

The United States, where a great chunk of the masses own a vintage car model, the average life span is 5.6 years and so is in the UK.

European countries of Sweden, Belgium and Germany have average lifespans of cars tipping the scales at 6.1, 6.2 and 6.5 years, respectively.

Interesting to note is that according to the research, only 241 cars per 1000 people exist in Saudi Arabia after fuel efficiency yardsticks were enforced in 2016 and the fuel subsidies were recouped. Yet there is a high propensity to purchase cars.

Being oriented to the future, KSA has also invested 1 billion USD in a US-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and entered into a deed with Nissan, Takaoka Toko and Tokyo Electric Power Co to implant EV charging stations.

China also played a smart move in 2010. It introduced a scheme that offered discounts to those who exchanged vehicles leaving a high carbon footprint and other toxic particles for frugal and less polluting vehicles. This was an inveigling instrument by the Government to be the cornerstone for a burgeoning automobile industry in China.

Few countries have launched a new scrappage policy where old cars spewing pollutants can be switched for new ones that emanate fewer emissions. Being cognizant of the need for eco-friendly vehicles, Argentina came up with new vehicle categories and a plan to foster newer vehicles that empathise with the environment. This means that the average age of new cars might reduce dramatically in the coming years as it transitions towards using sustainable mobility and take to electrification which is expected to become a global vogue by the end of this decade.

Initiatives by companies such as Nissan promoting its ‘Nissan Intelligent Mobility’ plan will also reduce the average age of new cars globally as people get enticed by these tech-laden machines that serve better in a rapidly evolving world and prove their relevance against the archaic vehicles.
