Bugatti Chiron makes world record run with Juan Montoya behind the wheel

A Bugatti Chiron piloted by professional racing driver and Formula One champion Juan Pablo Montoya has claimed the world record for a production car, by accelerating from a standstill to 400 km/h and then coming back to a standstill in record time.

In the process, the Bugatti Chiron rocketed to 400 km/h in 32.6 seconds and covered a distance of 2.62 kilometers. Post which, Montoya slammed on the brakes and brought the 2-ton Chiron to a complete halt in under 500 meters! The total distance covered during the record setting run was 3.12 kilometers and the whole exercise took just 41.96 seconds to complete. This impressive feat was undertaken under the official supervision of SGS-TUV Saar - world leaders when it comes to matters of certifications, inspections, and verifications.

The Bugatti Chiron’s quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine makes an astonishing 1,479 HP and 1,600 Nm of torque. Though this engine actually generates over 3000 HP, due to thermodynamics, half of that is lost in the form of heat. What’s remaining (which is still plenty), is directed to all four corners through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Launched from a standstill, the Bugatti Chiron will dispatch 100 km/h in a blistering 2.4 seconds, with 200 km/h being dealt with in a piffling 6.5 seconds and 300 km/h gone in just 13.6 seconds. The Bugatti Chiron's top speed is estimated to be well north of 400 km/h.
