2017 Chevrolet Spark Front

In the market of small, economical hatchbacks, there aren't many that can claim to have the reputation of the Chevrolet Spark. In a country like the UAE, ten minutes is all that’s needed to spot these magical little hatchbacks out and about.

With competition on the rise, Chevrolet has taken the opportunity to introduce the all-new fourth generation Spark and prove that is worthy of its place on the podium. As the Ford Figo and Mitsubishi Mirage stand baffled, we find out what makes the little Spark so very special.

Key Features:
Engine 1.4L Eco Tech Four Cylinder
Transmission Automatic CVT
Power 100hp / 127NM
Top Speed 175km/h
Price AED 45,000 (As Tested)

Exterior

The brand-new Chevrolet Spark has had a massive overhaul from a looks perspective, with the most noticeable change being the front end. The headlights are slim and pointed in a much more aggressive manner than before. The Spark looks very modern and, in my opinion, even leans towards looking like an electric car, which we’re rather fond of since the creation of Tesla Motors.

The color range for the new Spark adds a new “fun” dimension and really opens the car up to all ages. The old Spark was not the best-looking hatchback and not the most fun, and we feel Chevrolet have done a great job in branding this vehicle as the new zippy little hatchback that everyone can enjoy.

2017 Chevrolet Spark Side

We got the Spark LT in Mystic Violet Metallic and it looked great and stood out from the crowd. The rear of the car flaunts subtle changes with the tail lights and rear bumper looking much sportier than the previous generation model. Another big thing the Spark has going for it, is its stance - It seems to lean on its front wheels more so than the rear, giving it a very sporty look and one that has never been seen on cars in its segment.

Interior

The interior of the 2017 Spark has undergone a few small changes with the most noticeable being the space you get in the cabin. It's not full of gimmicks, it's got what you need: cup holders, a clean instrument cluster, cruise control, volume controls on the steering wheel and a gorgeous 7-inch infotainment screen.

The new MyLink screen is great and you can connect your phone and play music through it effortlessly – something that has become a necessity in this day and age. The Spark really is the perfect city runabout and is bound to not only meet but surpass expectations.

Safety & Tech

The Chevrolet Spark 2017 has a great safety record considering its size and it's only gone and got more safe. With dual airbags for both front passengers, a high-strength steel safety cage, rear park assist and a tire pressure monitoring system, the all-new Spark is up there with the safest hatchbacks in its segment.

As well as a high standard of safety, Chevrolet have made sure they stepped up their technology game with the brand new keyless entry and a start/stop system. The 7-inch MyLink system is also a first for the Spark, being able to control the air conditioning, radio, and Sat-Nav. Chevrolet are trying to give the Spark’s rivals a run for their money and undoubtedly want to be market leaders.

Drive

The new Spark comes with a 1.4L Ecotec 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT gearbox and has clearly been engineered for the city, with great fuel efficiency and smooth gear changes. On the motorway, it's not bad and can comfortably cruise at speed and even overtake if need be.

It also has a city mode where the steering becomes super light and the car is the easiest car I’ve ever driven when it comes to maneuverability. The Spark also has hill start assist which helps hold the car still without the brakes on when on an incline.

2017 Chevrolet Spark Interior - 4

After driving the Spark for 4 days around the city of Dubai, I came to the conclusion that this car is the epitome of comfortable city driving and for the ridiculous price of AED 45,000, it really is a no brainer.

Verdict

The 2017 Chevrolet Spark LT is a fantastic little city car with lots of technology to make sure it performs. Having also recently won several awards for Best Hatchback of the Year, it's clear the competitors are quaking in their boots.
