There are cars, there are great cars, and then there are dream cars. There are many factors that determine what a dream car is. These factors include, but are not limited to, incredible style, superior performance, ahead-of-its-time technology, sheer rarity, and historic impact. Needless to say, dream cars tend to have massive sticker prices attached to them, and that’s on the very rare times that you see them on-sale. For true-blue automotive enthusiasts, here are dream cars we all want to own:
Shelby Cobra
This is the car that took American muscle to the next level. Carroll Shelby took the body of the British car AC Cobra, installed a big block 427 engine that produces at least 450 horsepower, tuned it for track use, and a legend was born. The Shelby Cobra was a world-beater during its heyday, and still has ridiculous performance credentials even by today’s standards. Less than 500 authentic Shelby Cobras exist, and each of them has an asking price of over a million dollars.
Mercedes-Benz 300SL
The 300SL is considered as both the definitive supercar of the 1950s and the greatest sports car ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. This car has all kinds of innovative features such as its trademark gullwing doors, a lightweight aluminum body, and the world’s first 4-stroke engine that featured direct injection. All these features made the 300SL the world’s fastest car in the 1950s. Today, getting a 300SL costs near the million-dollar mark. It’s worth the price, since its value will never decrease.
Lamborghini Miura
The Miura is Lamborghini’s first-ever supercar, the forefather of greats such as the Countach and the Aventador. Designed by Bertone in 1967, its mid-engine design served as the blueprint for future supercars to follow. The body design is both distinctly stylish and aerodynamic. It also houses a V12 engine, a feature found in all Lamborghini flagship cars since, that produces 400+ horsepower. With only 764 examples produced, the Miura is now an ultra-rare dream machine.
Ferrari F40
With apologies to the equally legendary (and infinitely rare and expensive) 250GTO, the F40 is for us the greatest Ferrari ever made. Produced from 1988 to 1992 and designed by Enzo Ferrari himself, the F40’s stylish yet functional design has adorned posters for decades on end. Its super-lightweight construction, combined with a race-inspired twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 471 horsepower, gives the F40 dynamics that will put even today’s Hypercars to shame.
McLaren F1
Since it was first released in 1994, the McLaren F1 is considered the gold standard of all Hypercars. With a V12 engine that can produce more than 600 horsepower, the F1 can reach a top speed of 370 km/h. Its cornering capabilities and aerodynamics are also more advanced than everything else from its time. Perhaps just as staggering is the fact that the F1 accomplishes all these performance feats without sacrificing comfort and practicality for daily driving. It’s a dream car that is in a class of its own.
