EV News: Honda and GM to make EVs together, first model to arrive in 2027

Honda and General Motors have deceived to join forces as the automotive industry heads into the electrification era. The two giants have announced that their vehicles will share a new global platform that will use GM's Ultium battery technology. As part of their big plans, the two firms are looking to produce millions of EVs starting from 2027.
The Japanese and American firms will also be doing joint research on solid state batteries, share technology, design, and part-sourcing strategies and will be looking to decrease the price and make EVs more affordable by leveraging stuff.
What’s more, Honda EVs will be produced at GM plants in the US and will have GM OnStar driver-assist system. This is not the first collaboration between Honda and GM as the former is a partner of GM in its autonomous vehicles program - Cruise Automation - to which it announced a $2 billion investment over the course of 12 years back in 2018.
"GM and Honda will share our best technology, design, and manufacturing strategies to deliver affordable and desirable EVs on a global scale, including our key markets in North America, South America, and China,” said Mary Barra, GM’s head honcho.
Toshihiro Mibe, Honda president & CEO, commented: "Honda is committed to reaching our goal of carbon neutrality on a global basis by 2050, which requires driving down the cost of electric vehicles to make EV ownership possible for the greatest number of customers. Honda and GM will build on our successful technology collaboration to help achieve a dramatic expansion in the sales of electric vehicles."
