The all new Hyundai Accent is bigger and better than ever before. The fifth-generation model is affordable, packed with tech, and rocks a new look that is bound to give its competition a run for their money. While the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Sunny and Kia Rio held podium positions in the subcompact segment, the Accent 2018 is out to change that.

The fourth-generation Accent, which ran from 2010 till 2017, was by no stretch of the imagination a particularly good-looking car. It was functional, but design wasn’t its strongest point. With the all-new model, however, that isn’t the case for the designers have borrowed bits and pieces from the general parts bin to make the Accent look like a shrunken Elantra.

Punching above its weight then, the Hyundai Accent 2018 looks more expensive than it truly is. The hexagonal chrome slatted grille is complimented by 17-inch alloy wheels and sleek headlamps that slice their way into the fenders. The boomerang-like LED tail lamps are equally impressive and do fit in with the overall styling of the budget sedan.

Despite its compact size, the Accent is extremely spacious on the inside, offering ample amounts of headroom and legroom for rear seat passengers. With silver trim elements highlighting parts of the otherwise dark cabin, it’s a simple yet attractive color combo. Being a Hyundai, there’s plenty of tech on offer, which includes cruise control, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, a touch screen infotainment system, automatic mirrors, a sunroof, and a handsfree trunk release mechanism to name a few. Do the rivals match up? I think not.

Residing under the Accent’s hood is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder GDI engine that is extremely fuel efficient – a massive plus point when factoring in the increasing petrol prices in the UAE. With 123 horsepower and 151 Nm of torque that it pushes through a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Accent delivers a whopping 15 kilometers per liter of gasoline.

Built on a new chassis that offers a buttery smooth ride and improves noise isolation inside the cabin, the Accent is well equipped and, in a position, to challenge pricier rivals. Despite lacking a push button ignition, safety of all onboard is cemented with minute details such as doors that automatically lock when the car begins moving.

Priced at AED 59,900, the Hyundai Accent is the Korean brand’s strategy to attract younger buyers by offering plenty of bang for their buck. With an abundance of technology and a great design, there’s not much left to say except, well done Hyundai!
