The Lexus LX570 has been here for quite a while now and with time, it has definitely created a niche for itself in the hearts of the locals especially who desire luxury on top of the Land Cruiser drive. So, this SUV actually plays out really well. Since its launch in 2008, this is the third facelift for this particular model but this is a significant one. So let’s have a look.

Key Features:
Engine 5.7 liter V8
Transmission 8 speed automatic
Power 362 BHP
Top Speed 220 km/h
Price AED 450000

Exterior

Lexus has done the facelift in a really smart manner. You would never know that this is a facelift if you are not a car enthusiast. The company went to extreme lengths to not make it a minor facelift. There are new headlamps and taillamps, new front and rear bumper and new alloys. The SUV looks bulkier than before and has great road presence due to its mean looks. I especially like the sequential indicators that are clearly taken from Audi but they add that extra premium finesse. Overall, the LX570 looks closer to other Lexus models and not out of place.

Interior and Safety

The visual changes also occur in the interior. The whole dashboard is completely new and now comes with a wide 12.3” screen that is controlled by the joystick which is tedious to operate. Ofcourse, it is miles ahead of the touchpad but I would rather prefer old fashioned rotating dial or plain touchscreen. Other than that, you get leather everywhere, leather/wood steering wheel, plethora of buttons beside the gearbox to play around, climate control, head up display, cool box and a 19 speaker audio system. The head up display is somehow not aligned properly and one has to adjust in a weird manner to see it. Coming to the safety features, well, you have everything Lexus has to offer: 360 camera, sensors, airbags, adaptive cruise, blind spot detection etc. Overall, this car is fully loaded so you won’t miss much.

Drive

Lexus hasn’t updated the 5.7 liter V8 engine. It still produces the same 360 odd BHP and that disappointed me. Sure the engine is mated to a smooth 8-speed transmission but if you’re charging a bomb amount, one would expect a change in the power delivery as well. The test car I got had some mileage on it and it showed especially in the steering feel. Turning the wheel had become a daunting task as it just was too firm for me. I am sure a new LX570 won’t feel this way! Other than that, there is body roll and the SUV feels like an American truck most of the time. However, the air suspension does come in handy and keeps the humps and bumps to a minimum. Overall, I wish Lexus should have done something about the drive and not just cosmetic changes.

Verdict

LX570 now competes with the Range Rover in pricing but doesn’t feel like one.
