The Nissan GT-R isn’t in need of a flowery introduction as it has made its capabilities known to the world time and again.  Nicknamed the Godzilla, the GT-R sprints from a standstill to the 100 km/h mark in just 2.9 seconds and keeps going until topping out at an eye watering 315 km/h.

But as the title of this article suggests, Nissan has been focusing its efforts on manufacturing a drone fast enough to keep up with its GT-R: the halo model in its line-up. Managing to fly at a top speed of 185 km/h, the drone’s design is unique and optimized to keep drag at a minimum.

Being an FPV drone, it accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in just 1.3 seconds and is flown in quite the same way as a competition drone. With a special headset that relays a drone-eye view to the pilot, precision, high speeds and fast maneuvering are all possible. The pilot of the drone is 2015 British National Drone Racing Champion, James Bowles, while the GT-R is driven perfectly by Nissan NISMO driver, Ricardo Sanchez.

The GT-R drone is driven by four propellers tied to 2,000-kv XNova motors and a 1,400 mAh lithium-polymer battery sitting on a 0.7 kg race-spec Sky-Hero frame. Maximum thrust comes at 4.68kg, while the GT-R’s twin-turbo produces 637 Nm of torque giving it the advantage in every aspect, except over a short distance.
