Saudi Arabia’s first ever woman rally, Rally Jameel, concluded at the Rally HQ at Shaqra, the location of the newly opened Shaqra University. The Rally started at the Al-Qishlah Castle in Hail and His Royal Highness, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz, was also present.

Over the course of the rally, participants passed through Jubba, a UNESCO world heritage site, the area of Uyun AlJiwa in the Al-Qassim region, the iconic Saq Mountain and finally headed to Rawdat Al Hisu before reaching the finishing line.

The main objective of the rally was to introduce women to the field of motorsport and while there were some well-known rally racers and Dakar winners, for many women the Rally Jameel was their first taste of motorsport. It was organized by Bakhashab Motorsports, and sanctioned by the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF).

The Rally Jameel was won by famous woman Dakar Rally racer Annie Seel along with her partner Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. The two women from Sweden won the inaugural rally in a Toyota RAV4.

Her Royal Highness Princess Abeer bint Majed Al Saud participated in the rally in a Porsche Cayenne, and she said: “It was a great experience. To be honest, I took part because rally racing is a hobby I wanted to be part of and grow in.”

Walaa Rahbini, with her sister Samar, drove her first ever motorsport rally in a Mazda RX8 and commented: “The rally was really challenging and fun, but not that easy. We needed more practice.  But I would definitely do a rally like this again.”

“I am very happy with Rally Jameel coming to its end and crowning all the winners, who took part in this historic, first of its kind, women only, navigational rally in KSA and the Arab world,” said Abdullah Bakhashab, General Manager of Bakhashab Motorsports.

“I would like also to express my satisfaction with the huge participation, where foreign racers from 15 countries, such as the US, Sweden, UAE and others, took part in the rally, alongside nearly 21 racers from KSA. I look forward to seeing them again in Saudi Arabia,” he concluded with a smile on his face.
