An alternative to traditional petrol-powered mobility – Electric Vehicles (EVs) – are all the rage in today’s automotive space. Offering the sought-after practicality of conventional automobiles while emitting zero emissions into the atmosphere, EVs rank highly in the UAE government’s environmental 2021 vision.

Occupied by brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Renault, and Tesla in the UAE, the EV marketspace is supported by government initiatives such as the installation of 200 charging stations around the emirate of Dubai and the purchase of 200 Tesla vehicles for use in the Dubai Taxi fleet.

Renault, the pioneer and leader of EVs in the UAE, is the only manufacturer to provide a full-range of Electric Vehicles spanning from a hatchback to a large van, with its Twizy, ZOE and Kangoo models. Playing a key role in improving the air quality around cities, Renault’s EV line-up has been on sale in the UAE since 2013 and in Europe since 2011.

Helping to drive electric vehicle adoption and accelerate the transition towards a sustainable low-carbon future is Salah Yamout – Director of Sales & Marketing at Arabian Automobiles Company – who commented: “Arabian Automobiles Company Renault – is the EV market leader; we were the first company to sell EVs to the government and we have now been supplying the wider UAE market with EVs for over two years. This is underpinned by our commitment to the UAE Vision 2021 and supporting its sustainability objectives by offering our customers exceptional models like the upcoming Renault ZOE40 with a range of 300 kilometers – a new generation of EV that is certain to spark renewed interest in clean mobility.”

Having sold over 85 Renault EVs to a primarily Emirati audience, Renault’s EVs are extremely practical and easy to use, particularly with technological advancements to extend their range and the wider availability of charging stations – a move that the French automaker is helping to progress. Summer tested annually since 2014, the batteries and vehicles are engineered to stand the scorching heat of the warmer months.

By the year 2020, 10% of the government entities’ spend will be allocated towards purchasing EVs and hybrids as part of the larger vision to increase sustainability. With Renault’s diverse EV portfolio, the brand is well positioned to provide a large proportion of these vehicles. This could well prove true with the upcoming launch of the highly-anticipated ZOE 40 which was recently part of the showcase at Government Accelerators Offices giving attendees the opportunity to test drive the long-range ZOE 40 along with the Kangoo ZE and Twizy.
