The F-150 is by far, without a shadow of doubt, the most successful pickup truck ever made. It earned that distinction in the late 1970s. The F-150 also holds the title of being the fastest-selling vehicle, ever. It earned that distinction in the late 1980s. The F-150, in effect, is the jewel in the crown of Ford’s success and market dominance. Classified as a light-duty, full-size pickup truck, the very first F-150 went on sale in 1947 - a staggering 72 years ago. In the following seven decades, there have been thirteen generations of this remarkable vehicle, and it’s now better than ever before, and in every way.
Since the very beginning, Ford has been building the Ford F-150 in the United States of America. The current F-150 series has its production facility in Dearborn, Michigan, and Kansans City, Missouri. All F-150s that are currently sold in the United Arab Emirates (among other Middle East countries) comes from the US. In the UAE, the regular Ford F-150 starts at AED 168,000, going all the way up to AED 273,000 for the range-topping EcoBoost Crew Cab Limited (Luxury Pack). Meanwhile, the F-150 Raptor range costs between AED 241,500 and AED 351,900. With the launch of the new, thirteenth-generation F-150, Ford engineers managed to scrub off 340 kilograms from the curb weight of the truck - a commendable achievement. This was done by replacing many of the steel components and body parts with lightweight, high-strength aluminum. This not only made the truck lighter and more efficient, but the Blue Oval also claims the aluminum parts are far cheaper to repair, should they sustain any damage.
The base variant of the F-150 that’s sold in the UAE is the Regular Cab XL and it’s only available with rear-wheel drive. Its 3.5-liter V6 puts out 292 hp and 339 Nm of torque, and comes mated to an automatic transmission. This variant of the F-150 can make it to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, while top speed is 160 km/h. Moving up a few notches, we meet the 189,000 Dirham Lariat FX4. This one comes equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 that generates 360 hp and 515 Nm of torque - as always, assisted by a torque-converter automatic tranny. With its higher output, this naturally-aspirated V8 can propel the F-150 from naught to 100 km/h in a brisk 7.3 seconds, all the while sounding glorious. Moving up yet another notch and we arrive at the 204,750 dirham EcoBoost Crew Cab XLT. As its name suggests, you now get a 3.5-liter, turbocharged V6 which produces even more power than the V8, at 365 hp and 570 Nm. The EcoBoost-assisted Ford F-150 can now do the run from standstill to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. The standard F-150 range tops out at the 273,000 dirham EcoBoost Crew Cab Limited (Luxury Pack).
The F-150 in the EcoBoost Crew Cab Limited (Luxury Pack) trim is loaded to the gills with features and equipment. There’s adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, power sunroof, power side steps, 22-inch aluminum wheels, remote keyless-entry, leather upholstery, power-operated front seats with heating & cooling, multi-zone climate control, engine auto stop-start, Terrain Management System, Wi-Fi hotspot, surround-view cameras, SYNC 3 touch-infotainment head unit with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 10-speaker Sony sound system, and an electric tailgate among several other gizmos.
