Quick Overview

The old Dodge Durango wasn't great at what it did; average build quality, lack of creature comforts and a design that didn't inspire many people. The 2014 Durango however is worlds apart, completely new, it looks much better and looks like a proper SUV. With new engines and a host of technological upgrades, it is a fine contender in its class which includes the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Dodge did a fine job with the Durango; it looks like a proper SUV, butch, big and imposing, one of the better looking SUVs in its class. The Durango comes with a choice of 2 engines, a 3.6 Litre V6 with 290 HP or 5.7 Litre Hemi V8 with 360 HP, both which are mated to a ZF 8 Speed Automatic which is super smooth and very responsive. For its given size, the Durango does surprisingly well. It is a comfortable ride and handling isn't terrible at all, it is more car-like in road mannerisms rather than a big SUV. While it is not as capable off-road, it will easily tackle sand dunes and rough terrain, but the Durango is designed for people wanting a little extra space and power with the assured safety and comfort that a big SUV will provide.

The interior of the Dodge Durango is somewhat very American, everything is relatively big and chunky. That said, it is well built and feels solid but the design isn't class leading, it isn't as nice as the exterior but standard equipment is generous, more than enough to keep anyone happy. Optional extras are available to make the Durango look more appealing and sporty. With such an abundance of choice in this segment, the 2014 Durango makes a decent effort that will compel some buyers.
