Quick Review

The Mercedes S-Class is the top choice if you’re looking for a prestigious, luxury sedan for comfortable long drives. It has discreet yet elegant looks and offers some world class craftsmanship.

This year, the S500 L has some engine improvements with a more powerful and efficient V8.

All the S-Class models have luxurious interiors. There’s an abundance of gadgets, so everyone will be entertained – however, the Mercedes Command system for the AC and stereo can be confusing. Overall, this is a car that feels like it's been built to last.

For a big sedan, the S-Class is pretty agile. As you’d expect, the ride is excellent, body roll is controlled, and the cabin is extremely quiet. The driving experience feels relatively sporty, though fuel economy has been affected. The higher spec engines give all the power you could ever need, and the whole range offers a luxury drive from start to finish.

If you’re in the market for an elegant sedan to be chauffeured in, then the S-Class won’t disappoint. However, the Audi A8, Jaguar XJ, BMW 7 Series and the Maserati Quattro Porte are a strong bunch – but the S-Class is very well rounded, with tried and tested performance and world class build quality.

As an understated but elegant luxury sedan for long journeys, it’s hard to beat the S-Class. With good looks, excellent interior and some interesting engine choices, it’s top of the class.
