Quick Review

Though the looks are definitely love or hate, the Nissan Juke has plenty to offer. With good performance and sporty handling, if you look past its distinctive exterior you might find a lot to like.

The 2012 model has no significant changes, and retains its unique looks. These carry on into the interior of the car, which has a motorbike inspired feel. There’s some cheap plastic on show, but on the whole build quality is good.

As a four door compact cross between a hatchback and an SUV, you would expect to have a decent amount of cabin room. Space is good in the front but is sacrificed in the rear due to its sloping roof. The boot is also on the smaller side, meaning this isn’t the most cargo-friendly car in its class.

The Juke’s best qualities shine when it is being driven. Sharp handling, precise steering and sporty suspension mean it’s a pleasure to drive. If you’re looking for a smooth ride, however, the Juke might feel a bit fidgety – though it does control body roll well. Engine wise, the basic 1.6L might well be the best choice, giving good overall fuel economy, price and driving enjoyment.

In a competitive class, the Juke has a lot of compact crossover rivals. The Kia Soul and Mitsubishi ASX are more practical, but the Nissan remains quite enjoyable to drive. The Chevrolet Sonic and Ford Fiesta are also solid choices, being cheaper than the Juke, but both are slower accelerating and lack the Juke’s sporty edge.

If you’re looking for a small but affordable car with a bit of a twist, the Nissan Juke is worth considering – it’ll definitely turn some heads as well.
