Rolls Royce will enter the EV world with the Spectre. The electric coupé is slated to be revealed by the end of 2023 and has now hit the French Riviera for suspension testing.

The British carmaker claims that the Spectre will be the most aerodynamic Rolls yet with a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd which will enable it to have a better range. It has also stated that it will be its stiffest car yet thanks to the British marque integrating the battery pack into the Spectre’s aluminium structure.

And, last but not the least, the Spectre will have an advanced, computer-controlled suspension setup which will be able to disconnect the front and rear anti-roll bars for a rough road and then immediately connect them when the going gets easier. In the midst of the disconnecting and reconnecting, it will also tinker with the four wheel steering system. This mind-boggling suspension system will let the Spectre give its buyers Rolls Royce’s "magic carpet ride."

As clever as it may sound, such an advanced system will need loads of testing and that's why Rolls Royce has turned to the French Riviera to test this system. The Spectre will cover 625,000km on the Côte d’Azur with the tests split into two parts: some at the Autodrome de Miramas proving ground and some at the surrounding countryside.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls Royce Motor Cars, said: This latest testing phase proves a suite of advanced technologies that underpin a symbolic shift for Rolls Royce as it progresses towards a bright, bold, all-electric future. This will secure the ongoing relevance of our brand for generations to come.”

Rolls Royce has been testing the Spectre since September 2021 and after completing the second phase of testing in the South of France, it will still need to complete a whopping one million kilometres in order to reach its goal of 2.5 million km of testing.
