Automakers are racing towards ‘electrifying’ their cars as rapidly as EVs propel from zilch to 100 Km/h. This has compelled auxiliary industries to make a profound shift from conventional oil products to those which befit electric vehicles. This comes as a result of the fact that EVs rely on different hardware for their movement and distinction in technology requires such oil which can support mobility for the future.

The technology and services business Williams Advanced Engineering Limited (WAE) has joined hands with Castrol, one of the world’s leading lubricants manufacturer to build upon a 5-year technical partnership to conjure high-performance Electric Vehicle (EV) fluids. As part of the contract, the brand will be producing and bequeathing to them, thermal EV fluids to provide a solid base to WAE’s surging electrification programs and motorsport activities encapsulating Formula E, Extreme E, ETCR and LMdH. These thermal fluids will be such that it can supplement the performance of motorsport batteries which are constantly under work for their high velocity machines from May 2022.

While WAE and Castrol’s core focus is the highly burgeoning motorsport segment, they have plans of eventually diversifying into aerospace and marine realms as well where the technical competency of Castrol and WAE’ engineering expertise will help to build reliable solutions for these air and aquatic machines. Particularly, the need for high-tech, rapid and efficient battery cooling systems is the need of the hour as it would be gruelling for the batteries which continuously divulge charge.

A novel ON product range will be available for WAE to experience and use in its mobility applications which feature EV transmission fluids, EV thermal fluids and EV Greases which would allow the company eyeing the future to access contemporary solutions for battery cooling systems. In fact, the brand is already working on prototypes to enhance their second-life viability and value.

For each purpose, the union of the brands will produce special thermal EV fluids which will accentuate the performance quotient of the machine these are being used for.

Craig Wilson, CEO, Williams Advanced Engineering said: “We are delighted to be part of this strategic partnership with Castrol which I believe will allow the development of products specifically designed to support electrification, in whatever form that takes. In addition to the motorsport sector, I believe advanced fluid technology will be important to a number of other key sectors.”

AS Ramchander, Vice President-Marketing and GAM, Castrol said,” As the world of mobility accelerates towards an electric future, it’s essential that we fully understand the requirements and challenges of electrifying all forms of mobility. By partnering with Williams Advanced Engineering, we hope to support the development of cutting-edge mobility solutions, as well as further advance our EV Fluid technologies.”

The conception of such fluids is of paramount significance to support the electric vehicles, which are anticipated to become the new normal in just another 10 years. It is crucial for Castrol to justify its relevance in the market and continue building the brand name it has built with such painstaking effort and be the undisputed king of the segment it has been for all these years. A quick and early transition is always beneficial as it lets them have the first mover advantage especially when ICE cars and the current lubricants on sale are expected to become vapid very shortly.
